Manchester United Make Immediate Mason Greenwood Decision
Retained List Announced
United have now announced their official retained list ahead of the new season.
While all the expected names of first-team stars appear on the list, the most notable addition was Mason Greenwood.
This, therefore, gives confirmation that the Englishman’s contract at Old Trafford will not be immediately terminated.
However, it remains to be seen whether he will remain at the club in the long term.
A recent report from Mike Keegan suggests that the Red Devils will consider sending him out on loan next campaign to gauge public opinion surrounding the situation and Greenwood’s condition. This is all subject to the result of their internal investigation, which could yet see him released from his £75,000-per-week contract of which there are still two more years.
Keegan states that a domestic loan is highly unlikely, with more probable destinations including Spain, Italy, and Turkey, with offers having already come in from the latter of the three.
It is certainly the case that Greenwood would need time before he could return to playing at the top level, not just to improve his physical state but also to deal with his mental health. However, many don’t believe he should be allowed to play professional football ever again after the allegations and evidence distributed on social media against him.
