How Can Diaby Fit In at Old Trafford?

Currently, Erik ten Hag’s side contains a large number of wingers including Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho. However, Diaby’s addition could potentially add something different to their frontline, with the 23-year-old gaining a reputation for being able to play anywhere across the front three despite naturally being a right-winger.

Diaby has been called the “most explosive dribbler in the world” due to his impressive ability to burst past defenders at will – with his style being perfect for the Red Devils’ counter-attack-heavy football style. The 23-year-old has recorded impressive numbers at Leverkusen too, scoring 49 goals and providing 48 assists in 172 appearances across all competitions since joining in 2019.

Manchester United’s Interest in Diaby

Diaby enjoyed a prolific campaign for Leverkusen in the 2022/23 season, helping them to finish in the Bundesliga’s top six and to reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists in the process.

As Simon Jones reports, the Red Devils are considering the French forward as a possible upgrade on the underperforming Jadon Sancho. It is also stated that the Manchester side could face competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Arsenal who have a long-standing interest in the former PSG player.

Jones further claims that Leverkusen would demand a fee of around £65 million for the 23-year-old Frenchman after watching him excel for them last season. It is also stated that any transfer activity on this front could be delayed because of the situation surrounding United’s impending takeover.
