Mattino adds that United have agreed personal terms with the 26-year-old defender and will be paying him an annual salary of around £9 million. It is also stated that the club will be activating the release clause in Kim’s current Napoli contract, which will make him available for sale for around £41 million in the first 15 days of July.
The Red Devils are tipped to complete the transfer of the South Korean centre-back by July 1 and make him a part of their own squad before the start of the 2023/24 season. The defender made 45 appearances for Napoli across all competitions last term and helped them keep 15 clean sheets in 35 Serie A appearances.
Can Kim Min-jae Fit In at Old Trafford?
Even though the Red Devils signed a new centre-back in the form of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax last summer, it appears that they are still looking to strengthen their backline and transform it to be among the best in the world. Kim can add something new to the defensive front because of his unique skills and impressive quality as a centre-back.

The 26-year-old was hailed as the ‘best centre-back in the world’ by Napoli manager Luciano Spaletti last season, with the Italian coach claiming that he can ‘get into the opposition penalty area in five seconds’ because of his agility and pace. He is a strong reader of the game, which can help him add more composure to the Red Devils’ backline. For the time being, however, it remains to be seen if United can get this deal done and further buff up their centre-back depth for the upcoming campaign.
