United Looking to Increase Strength in Depth, Kim Min-jae Would Be Perfect

Erik ten Hag’s United side desperately need to improve their strength in depth, and signing Kim – nicknamed the “monster” – would be a perfect way to do so.

Currently, United have four natural centre-backs in their squad – not including Luke Shaw who is more than capable of filling in but is more naturally a left-back – but with club captain Harry Maguire now expected to leave in the summer, they will need to bring in at least one more, and it is vital that it be a top player.

When United’s first-choice centre-back pair Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane got injured at the business end of the 2022/23 campaign, it threw Ten Hag’s side off course, and they lost their momentum as a result. While eventually the duo of Shaw and Victor Lindelof was found to be an effective stop-gap, they did not have quite the same tenacity and ball-progressing quality that the French-Argentine pair are known for.

Should the Red Devils succeed in their pursuit of Kim, it would represent not only a huge improvement in their depth – which would allow Ten Hag to rotate more and prevent any injuries from happening in the first place – but would also provide some real competition for Martinez and Varane to push them to their very best.
