According to a report from Jason Burt of The Telegraph, it will be a “serious blow” for Liverpool, and especially for Jurgen Klopp, if Manchester United and Erik ten Hag launch an offer for Mason Mount. David Ornstein of the Athletic reports that the 24-year-old is leaning towards a move to Old Trafford this summer, and so, provided United can come to an agreement with Chelsea and Mount over the deal, he is expected to choose a move to the Theatre of Dreams.
Klopp has earmarked Mount as a key part of his rebuild at Anfield, but may now have to look at similar players elsewhere.
It has recently been claimed that the Red Devils are set to make a bid for the Englishman, though it will fall short of Chelsea’s £85 million asking price.

United and Liverpool Looking to Revitalise Their Midfields; Mason Mount Could Be the Man for Either Job
One of the main areas where Manchester United need to improve is in their midfield.
This campaign, a long-term injury to Christian Eriksen and suspensions for Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes saw the Red Devils without each of their three first-choice midfielders at one point or another. When this occurred, it was obvious how much their strength in depth was lacking in the middle of the park, and it tended to result in a sharp downturn in form and loss of momentum.

While he does not fit the profile of a Casemiro-type player, Mount certainly possesses some of the traits that have made Eriksen and Fernandes undroppable for Ten Hag across the 2022/23 season. As a creative midfielder, the 24-year-old could aptly fill in for either Eriksen or Fernandes, something that none of Scott McTominay, Fred, or Donny van de Beek has been able to do over the past nine months.
Equally, Liverpool are going to need to refresh their midfield ahead of next campaign. James Milner is set for a move to Brighton and Hove Albion while Fabinho and Jordan Henderson are not getting any younger.
Wherever he ends up, Mount is a “sensational” player in his own right, and whether he is playing football for Chelsea, Liverpool, United, or someone else next season, he will remain right at the top of the game.
