Mount Leaning Towards Chelsea Exit

Even though the London side have reportedly been trying for months to get Mount tied down to a new long-term contract, they’ve been unable to win him over and agree to his demands. Chelsea have reportedly decided to sell the midfielder in the summer unless he signs a new deal.

Kinsella reports that the incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen on keeping the midfielder, but has no control over his contract situation. It’s also stated that United are prepared to make him an offer and that manager Erik ten Hag has been an admirer of him for a long time, having tried to sign him on loan for Ajax in 2018.

It’s further added that Premier League clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal are also interested in the 24-year-old midfielder, but it’s also been reported that the Englishman is personally leaning towards the prospect of joining United in the summer if he was to leave his childhood club.

How Can Mount Fit In at United?

For some Premier League and Chelsea fans, it could be bizarre seeing Mount play for another major side after featuring consistently for the Blues since being given his breakthrough to the first team by Frank Lampard in 2019. With the player reportedly earning as little as £80,000 a week it is easy to see why he could be lured away by a bigger contract offer.

The midfielder could fit in well at Old Trafford due to his versatility, creativity and hard work in the middle of the park. He can operate in a variety of midfield roles and possesses an impressive work-rate as well. The 24-year-old has made 195 appearances for Chelsea in his career, scoring 33 goals and providing 37 assists and was a key part of their 2020/21 Champions League winning squad too – but it appears that he might be nearing an unfortunate exit from the club.
