Spurs Face Stiff Competition for Signing

The North London side are currently at the end of what has been a very topsy-turvy season which looks set to end on a damper. Spurs sacked manager Antonio Conte a few months ago and have had multiple managerial changes since, with his short-term replacement Cristian Stellini also shown the door. As they continue their search for a new manager, Spurs also keeping an eye out for potential summer signings.

Ornstein adds that Mamardashvili is likely to leave Valencia at the end of the season and his priority is to be the no.1 goalkeeper for whichever club he plays for next season, as he wouldn’t want to go back to being a backup goalkeeper anymore. It’s also stated that apart from Tottenham, the likes of Aston Villa, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and FC Porto are all monitoring his situation and are ready to make a move for him.

It’s further reported that the Georgian goalkeeper has a release clause of £86.8 million, but Ornstein adds that there is a feeling among all necessary parties that the fee for his signing could be reduced in the summer window. Chelsea have also been reported to be in the race to sign the 22-year-old goalkeeper.

Mamardashvili Enjoying Prolific Breakthrough Season at Valencia

The Georgia international has been impressive for the La Liga club this season, helping them keep seven clean sheets in 35 appearances. That includes one after a brilliant performance against Real Madrid on May 21, where he made a string of important saves to help his side get a valuable win.

Mamardashvili is an impressive shot-stopper and his towering presence helps him make reactive saves as well as claim crosses and set-pieces with ease. The 22-year-old has been compared to PSG goalkeeper and Italy’s UEFA Euro 2020 hero Gianluigi Donnarumma, with the comparison feeling like a blessing for the Georgian. It remains to be seen if Spurs actually make a move for him, but the Valencia no.1 should at least be an upgrade over Fraser Forster.
