How Arsenal Have Lined Up Recently

April was a difficult month for Mikel Arteta’s men, which included three draws in a row – followed by a 4-1 mauling at the hands of their title rivals Manchester City. The Gunners have bounced back well since that defeat, winning 3-1 at home to Chelsea and winning 2-0 away against Newcastle. The faith Arteta has shown in his players has been justified with their two most recent performances.

Ben White, Jakub Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Magalhaes have been constants in defence in the last two games, with Aaron Ramsdale between the sticks. Kiwior replaced Rob Holding, who started in the defeat against Manchester City. Zinchenko was forced off during the win at Newcastle United with a calf injury and could be deputised by Kieran Tierney.

Granit Xhaka, Martin Odegaard and Jorginho – are expected to continue in midfield. In the more forward areas, Gabriel Jesus is expected to continue in attack and will be looking to add to his ten goals in the Premier League this season. Bukayo Saka has enjoyed a brilliant season and will be looking to continue his great form as Arsenal look to ramp up the pressure on Manchester City. Despite Gabriel Martinelli impressing against Newcastle, Arteta could select Leandro Trossard against his former team. The winger is well thought of by his ex-manager Roberto de Zerbi, who described him as a “fantastic player.” The Belgian reportedly earns 45k per week and has proved a useful midseason acquisition, scoring once and providing eight assists for his teammates in 19 appearances in all competitions.

Arsenal Absences to Consider

William Saliba, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohamed Elneny are still on the injury list, but Arteta is hopeful Zinchenko could still feature despite his recent injury.
