How Chelsea Have Lined-Up Recently
The Blues have experienced an awful run of form in 2023 and have undergone multiple managerial changes this season. Due to their poor form, Lampard has chopped and changed around his team throughout his stint.
However, a few players have made themselves mainstays in the team. Those players include Kepa Arrizabalaga, Thiago Silva, Wesley Fofana, Ben Chilwell (who recently signed a new contract), Enzo Fernandez and N’Golo Kante – since he returned from long-term injury. After his impressive display in the loss to Arsenal, January signing Mykhailo Mudryk – who was hailed as “really fast” by teammate Kalidou Koulibaly earlier this season – should return to the starting lineup.
Chelsea Recent Form and Tactics
Chelsea are currently on a six-game losing streak in the Premier League and have not been able to pick up a single point in the competition since Lampard took over. They now face a side that are also in the bottom half of the league table like themselves.

Lampard appears to have changed his formation to 4-3-3 and is trying to implement a more attacking style. He likes to protect his backline with multiple midfielders and then help create chances on the counter-attack. Moreover, the Blues’ go-to playing style mostly sees them create opportunities through wide areas – with the wingers and full-backs working to set up chances that the forwards haven’t been able to convert under the English manager.
Chelsea Key Players
Chelsea’s best players this season have been on the defensive side, with Thiago Silva being a rock at the back with his sturdy defensive style. With Bournemouth impressing in home games recently, the Brazilian defender will need to be at his best to help his team get their first win under Lampard. January signing Fernandez has also maintained his form, being an energetic player in midfield who takes utmost responsibility for winning back possession and setting up chances.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains the best finisher at the club and needs to prove that by taking his chances in this game. Mudryk is already known for his pace and dribbling ability, but he’ll need to improve his final product with better passes or finishing. Noni Madueke proved how exciting he can be with his goal against Arsenal, as he’ll aim to use that clever movement and finishing to add to his form.
Chelsea Injuries to Consider
Lampard has confirmed that Kalidou Koulibaly is getting closer to returning to fitness but remains injured. Mason Mount, Reece James and Armando Broja are all seemingly out for the rest of the season with long-term injuries.
