Oxford’s young striker Gatlin O’Donkor narrowly missed out on the League One ‘Apprentice of the Season’.
The 18-year-old, who had scored twice in 34 senior appearances before picking up an injury against Cheltenham Town, was pipped to the award by Charlton Athletic centre-back Zach Mitchell, with Barnsley striker Fabio Jalo also missing out.
O’Donkor also netted five goals as the young U’s reached a historic FA Youth Cup quarter-final, where they were beaten by Manchester City.
Winless Run Ended With Romp Against the Robins
Oxford finally ended their 17-game winless run in style with a 4-0 victory over Cheltenham Town.
Tyler Goodrham gave the U’s the first-half lead before Kyle Joseph added a second just seven minutes into the second half.
Marcus Browne then notched a brace as Liam Manning picked up his first win since taking charge.
Win Over Forest Green Secures League One Status for Oxford United
On Saturday, Oxford headed to already relegated Forest Green Rovers knowing a win could keep them in League One.
Goals from Joseph, Goodrham and Billy Bodin secured a 3-0 win in Gloucestershire while a late comeback from Barnsley against MK Dons helped the U’s to retain their third-tier status.
While fans will rightfully celebrate staying up, there is no denying it had been a season of frustration from start to finish.
