Arsenal are still interested in the possibility of signing Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo in the summer transfer window, claims Fabrizio Romano. This comes after their well-known chase to sign him in January, which ultimately ended up failing and forcing them to sign Jorginho from Chelsea.

The Gunners were really intent on signing the Ecuadorian midfielder in the winter transfer window and reportedly saw bids of up to £70 million get rejected by Brighton, who held their ground and refused to sell him even after Caicedo made a public plea urging him to let him go. The player reportedly earns as little as £15K per week in wages which could be behind his desire to move.

Romano adds that despite all of that, Arsenal retain an interest in signing him. With that being said, this time they will face widespread competition – with multiple Premier League sides also eyeing a move for him. He wrote on his CaughtOffside column: “Arsenal are still interested in Caicedo but they’re not alone, there are more English clubs keeping an eye on his situation.”
In a recent interview, Caicedo admitted that it was his ‘dream’ to play for La Liga giants Real Madrid and win the Champions League with them once in his career. When it comes to talking over a possible move to the Santiago Bernabeu, Romano added: “I’m not aware of concrete talks with Real Madrid at this stage, it’s his dream but not something negotiated now.”
What can Caicedo bring to Arsenal?
The 21-year-old midfielder has been really impressive all through the season for Brighton, helping them perform well in the Premier League and reach the latter rounds of the FA Cup as well. He’s made 33 appearances for the Seagulls this season and maintained a high level of consistency with his performances as well. The Ecuadorian has been labelled a “monster” by journalists for his performances in the past.

Caicedo can fit in really well at Arsenal and provide be an alternative to Thomas Partey, who has struggled with injuries and inconsistency throughout this season. The 21-year-old midfielder is a really energetic figure in midfield, who excels in making key tackles and winning key duels – as well as starting counter-attacks. He can fit in well with Mikel Arteta’s young squad and add more vibrancy to the squad. However, with Brighton already under pressure to sell Alexis Mac Allister in the summer, it remains to be seen if they accept any offer for Caicedo.
