Manchester United captain Harry Maguire will sit down with the club to talk over his future role at the club in the summer, claims Fabrizio Romano. The Englishman has lost his regular role in the team and has struggled to start major games since the arrival of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax last summer.
Harry Maguire Set to Sit Down for Future Talks With Manchester United
Maguire Focused On Winning More Trophies With United
The centre-back won his first-ever trophy in his senior career earlier this season when he lifted the Carabao Cup title with the Red Devils. He’s hungry to win more with the club but is also aware of their need to talk about the kind of role he’ll play at the club going forward.

Romano wrote in his CaughtOffside column: “Ten Hag recently publicly praised Harry Maguire and that is because the Dutchman really appreciates the English defender, especially as a top professional.”
“Maguire has never created any problems – this is why he was not on the market in January. For the summer though, a lot will depend on what the player wants. As for now, Maguire is fully focused on the final part of the season and wants to win more trophies with Man United. He will speak to Ten Hag to decide his future at the end of the season.”
Are United Looking To Replace Maguire?
Manchester United might be looking for ways to further improve their backline and the general depth of their defensive options in the summer. It’s been reported that they’re looking for a new right-back and are interested in Bundesliga starlet Jeremie Frimpong.

They are also reportedly looking to sign Bayern Munich centre-back Benjamin Pavard to add more depth to the centre-back position. Considering how Raphael Varane and Martinez have started most of the Premier League games this season and how Luke Shaw has started some major games as a centre-back, Maguire’s future at United doesn’t look too bright.
The 30-year-old, described as a ‘dominant’ defender by Ten Hag recently, has made 25 appearances for the Red Devils this season and only lost three times in those appearances. With that being said, most of the games were in cup competitions or Premier League games where he came on as a substitute or started against weaker opponents. It’s due to his lack of game-time in the league that he’s probably looking to speak to Ten Hag about the future once the season is over, but the Englishman remains a true professional until that.
