Manchester United have held “exploratory talks” over a move for Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard, according to Laurie Whitwell and David Ornstein of The Athletic. The report claims that should the Red Devils secure a new striker and midfielder in the style of a No.8 this summer, their attention will turn to signing a new right-back to replace the in-form Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Among the options identified are Pavard, who could be available for a “bargain” £26 million according to reports from German outlet Sport 1, and Denzel Dumfries, a compatriot of United boss Erik ten Hag who recently changed agents ahead of a potential summer move.

Solving One of Their Biggest Problems
Throughout the season, United’s right-back position has been one of their major problems.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been the Red Devils’ best player in the position of late, but it could be argued that his playing style doesn’t fit perfectly with that of Ten Hag. The other option is Diogo Dalot, but his performances since the World Cup break have left fans questioning whether he should be starting for a team of the stature of United, especially with the defensive side of his game not being near the level of Wan-Bissaka’s.

This could be solved, though, with the signing of a new attacking right-back this summer.
Pavard is available in the summer for a discount price as his current contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2024. Given that United want to prioritise a starting striker and No.8, there may not be much money left in the bank when it comes to bringing in a new right-back, and so this deal could provide the perfect solution for all parties involved.
Also in the minds of executives at Old Trafford is Denzel Dumfries. Ten Hag is known to admire his fellow Dutchman, and his recent change of representation indicates the potential for a summer transfer.
