They are in first place in the league standings with an 11-point advantage over Marseille in second place and are expected to win the trophy a record 11 times. Their star player, Messi, may, however, achieve several personal landmarks by playing with less pressure until the end of the season. Here are the four milestones Lionel Messi can accomplish before the 2022/23 season is over.
800 Career Goals
One of the closest milestones Lionel Messi will be eyeing is 800 career goals and he is only one goal shy of achieving the landmark. The 35-year-old has scored 799 goals in total in 1015 senior appearances for both clubs and country.
100 International Goals
Messi has scored 98 goals in 172 appearances for his national side Argentina. The diminutive Argentine needs only two more goals to become the first South American player to score 100 international goals. Overall, only two players have scored more than 100 goals on the international stage: Ali Daei from Iran (109) and Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal (118). This, in particular, is one of the unique milestones he will be aiming to achieve during the March international friendlies.
500 League Goals
The forward has been a prolific goal scorer since the beginning of his career at Barcelona. He hasn’t lived up to the expectations since joining PSG in 2021 but still managed to score an impressive amount of goals for the French giants and is only seven goals away from completing his 500 league goals. So far he has netted 474 goals in 520 matches for Barcelona and 19 in 48 appearances for PSG.

850 Club Appearances
Messi has already played more than 1,000 official matches, the majority of them for his club. He has made 1015 senior appearances in total. 843 matches at club level and 172 games for the national team and is, therefore, just seven games away from reaching this landmark.
These are the four milestones Lionel Messi may still accomplish before the 2022/23 season is over as he looks to continue to build upon what is a truly remarkable legacy in the sport.
