Chelsea manager Graham Potter is refusing to get too much involved in the club’s discussions with Mason Mount over a new contract. The Englishman’s current deal at the club runs out in 2024, and he is reported to have rejected their offers thus far.

Potter Refuses to Be Drawn Into Mount Contract Negotiations
Mount has been an important player for the London side over the last few years and was influential in their Champions League win under Thomas Tuchel in 2021. However, he is rumoured to be among the club’s lowest earners with a weekly salary of £80,000 and clearly wants a major pay rise from his new deal.

When asked about what he knows about the midfielder’s current stance on a new contract at Chelsea, Potter said: “Sometimes these things happen. They’re complicated. It’s best that I let both parties get on with it. It’s an important contract for Mason so these things have to be right for him and his family and it’s important he makes his decision on that basis.”
This clearly indicates that Potter is not directly involved in the contract negotiations himself and is allowing co-owner Todd Boehly to do so. Chelsea are reportedly close to agreeing a new long-term deal for N’Golo Kante but haven’t found talks to be as straightforward with Mount.
Mount’s Future at Chelsea Under Questions
Soon after Chelsea had agreed a new long-term deal for Reece James in September of last year, it was reported that they were going to prioritise a new deal for another one of their star youth team graduates. However, it doesn’t appear that things have gone that smoothly with Mount, and the two parties haven’t been able to come to an agreement on a new contract.

Something which hasn’t really made things better for the 24-year-old is also him having a really inconsistent campaign so far. In 32 appearances for Chelsea this season, he has only scored three goals and provided six assists – with his last goal contribution being at the end of December. Mount, who was hailed as an “outstanding” player in 2021 by Joe Cole, has made 192 appearances so far for the Blues – in which he’s scored 33 goals and provided 37 assists.
