Roy Keane Reveals Who ‘Let the Club Down’ and Who Was ‘Disgraceful’ After Liverpool Thrash Manchester United

Roy Keane was extremely critical of Bruno Fernandes on Sunday

Manchester United were embarrassed by Liverpool in a record-breaking 7-0 thrashing on Sunday afternoon. The Red Devils, who came into the game in a patch of hot form and having just won the EFL Cup, put on a dismal display, and conceded 6 times in the second half alone. Roy Keane has had his say on the matter after the match, focusing in on some specific players whose performances he found particularly unacceptable.

What Keane Said

Speaking on Sky Sports’ post-match coverage, Keane revealed just how disappointed he was in the result.

“The senior players, the big players, the ones we give the big build-up to, the experienced players – I think they’re the ones who really let the club down today,” Keane said.

“I always imagine if you lose 7-0 in a game like this, you’d go into hiding, never mind for a few days I think I’d go missing for a few months. It really is that embarrassing for the players.”

The Irishman went on to say that he thought Bruno Fernandes’ body language had been “disgraceful” during the match, particularly given that he was the captain.

A Setback to Overcome for Erik ten Hag

Regardless of this game, Erik ten Hag’s start to life at Manchester United has been fantastic.

He has turned the side from one with no belief or desire to one capable of winning trophies and playing with truly impressive confidence.

Elements of last season’s Red Devils were on display against Liverpool on Sunday, though, and it is up to Ten Hag to ensure that there is no repeat of this.

With everything still to play for this campaign, United need to be able to put this game behind them and look onward to their next fixture at home to Real Betis on Thursday night.
