Arsenal confirmed today that midfielder Mohamed Elneny has signed a contract extension with the club. The Egyptian international was on £49,000-per-week on his previous contract, which was set to expire this summer. He is now set to stay in north London until June 2024.

‘I Love This Club’
Mohamed Elneny signed for the Gunners back in January 2016 and has gone on to make 155 appearances in all competitions. In his seven years at the club, he has scored six goals and weighed in with 10 assists.
He is the longest-serving player in Arsenal’s current squad, and Elneny is delighted to have extended his contract.
“I’m so happy, I love this club and our supporters so much and I’ll give everything to help us be the best we can be, every day I’m here,” the midfielder said.
“It makes me so proud to have represented this amazing club since 2016. The spirit and togetherness we have in our squad right now is so positive and I’m so happy I have extended my contract.”
Arteta on Elneny’s Impact
Elneny’s contract extension is likely to have gone down well with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard called the 30-year-old ‘phenomenal’ back in April last year and said in November that the midfielder had been a key part of Arsenal’s success off the pitch.

Speaking in November after Elneny returned from injury in Arsenal’s 1-0 Europa League win against FC Zurich, Arteta said: “He was really good. He’s been out for eight weeks, we expected him to be out for 12 weeks, he had an amazing recovery, he’s a guy that has been pushing everybody around the training ground to be ready as quick as possible and today I think he competed really well.”
Mohamed Elneny’s Role Going Forward
Although he is not a regular starter for Arsenal, Elneny will have a role to play in the second half of this season.
He has played less than 300 minutes in all competitions, but Arteta will look to utilise his squad depth as Arsenal continue to push for a first league title since 2004 and Europa League glory as well.

Rotation will become a necessity as Arsenal progress further in each competition. Especially seeing as regular starter Thomas Partey has not yet recovered from the injury that he picked up against Manchester City.
Elneny will therefore be an option for Arteta if he needs to rest other midfielders.
Arsenal return to action on Saturday as they face Leicester City at The King Power Stadium before they play Everton at home on Wednesday, March 1.
