How Arsenal Have Lined-up Recently

Mikel Arteta’s side have been on fire in the Premier League this season. They’ve won 16 out of their 19 games at the midway point of the campaign, only losing once.

The Gunners have been inspired by the brilliant form of their captain Martin Odegaard, who is operating at a very high level this season. He is delivering that added composure in the final third, with young wingers Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli causing chaos with their movement and final output in and around the penalty area. Granit Xhaka has been impressing with his free midfield role, getting into dangerous areas in the final third and creating a lot of chances.

Even Eddie Nketiah has slotted in perfectly to replace the injured Gabriel Jesus, scoring a superb brace in their recent win over Manchester United. Arsenal also have a settled back-five, with goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale adding a blanket of security in between the posts. Gabriel Magalhaes has formed an unbreakable partnership with William Saliba, and new signing Oleksandr Zinchenko has added something new to their backline.

Arsenal bolstered their squad in the January transfer window to boost their chances of going all the way in the Premier League. Their deadline-day signing of Jorginho comes in with plenty of experience and could feature prominently in that defensive midfield role – protecting their backline and helping with the ball progression from defence to attack.

Arsenal Recent Form and Tactics

The Gunners are going to head into the game against Everton on the back of a 1-0 loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup, knocking them out of the competition as a result. But that was only a blip in what has been a very good 2023 for them so far. Arteta’s side have won three of their five games this year, including big wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Arsenal are operating like a well-oiled machine this season and playing some of the most attractive football in the league. They rely on moving the ball swiftly from defence into attack and often goad opponents into overstepping, allowing them to use their fast attacking players to cause chaos in counter-attacks.

A lot of their attacks begin on the wings, with Saka and Martinelli using their combination of electric pace and trickery on the ball to create goal-scoring opportunities. Xhaka’s overlapping runs often cause a lot of problems for defenders, while Odegaard has displayed impressive skill in carrying the ball forward and playing perfect passes into the final third.

Even defensively Arsenal have been hard to break down, with their defenders showing fearlessness in going into challenges and the midfielders often dropping deep, making it tough for opponents to find spaces around their box.

Arsenal Injuries to Consider

Arsenal suffered a major blow in their loss to Man City, with Thomas Partey being taken off at half-time after suffering an injury. Arteta has confirmed that whilst he is not ruled out, he is a doubt for the game, which means that Jorginho could get his debut in his place. Mohamed Elneny and Emile Smith Rowe are also both out for this game, joining Reiss  Nelson and Gabriel Jesus on the treatment table.
