Two Other Clubs Join Chelsea in the Race for Talented Midfielder

Moises Caicedo

Arsenal and Liverpool have entered the race alongside Chelsea for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, as per Fabrizio Romano. It has also been confirmed that Ecuadorian has chosen the agency Futbol Division as his new agent to increase the possibility of a January transfer.

Confirmation of New Agents Makes a January Transfer More Likely

It had been previously stated that any negotiations for Caicedo had stalled until the 21-year-old changed agents, but now that has materialised it could potentially pave the way for a mid-season switch to a Premier League giant.

Romano reported that “Chelsea have been pushing for weeks and remain keen” on bringing Caicedo to Stamford Bridge as they seek to revitalise their lacklustre midfield.

The Blues have already tested the waters with Brighton as Ben Jacobs revealed that Todd Boehly has already proposed a fee in the region of £65 million for the South American star. However, the Seagulls are still holding out for £75 million if they are to lose Caicedo in January. Brighton CEO Paul Barber declared that he “understands” if the midfielder prefers a move but won’t sell unless their valuation is met.

Whilst Arsenal and Liverpool are yet to make formal enquiries, Romano stated that they are “well-informed” on the situation and cannot be ruled out. The Gunners are looking to follow up the signings of Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior to provide some squad depth for their title challenge. Whereas Liverpool are looking for midfield reinforcements to improve upon their highly disappointing campaign that has seen them plummet to ninth.

Brighton Are Desperate to Keep Moises Caicedo

The major stumbling block to any deal is Brighton’s aspiration to keep their youngster for the rest of the season. Seagulls’ manager Roberto De Zerbi announced he is hopeful that Caicedo finishes the season on the south  coast and feels that the best solution would be for the midfielder to change teams in the summer.

Caicedo was signed from Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle in 2021 and has been a consistent performer since returning from loan in January 2022. Brighton currently sit in sixth in the Premier League and are chasing European football for the first time in their history. If they are to achieve this incredible feat then Caicedo will be a crucial part of this journey, hence their reluctance to let him depart mid-season.
