United Must Balance Financial Books Before Big-Money Transfer

The Red Devils splurged a lot of money to help improve Erik ten Hag’s squad in last year’s summer transfer window, making some major signings in the form of Antony and Casemiro. After the sudden departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in November, United had to sign a striker in Wout Weghorst as well as a backup goalkeeper Jack Butland in January, with both moves being loan deals.

Erik ten Hag’s side are planning to further improve their squad in the summer, but Whitwell insists that the consequences of overspending, as well as underselling in recent years, has landed them in trouble. That means that the Red Devils will now have to sell some of their first-team players in order to balance their financial books for them to stay in line with UEFA’s financial fair play rules.
