Newcastle United Willing to Let ‘Absolutely Awesome’ Goalkeeper and Another Player Leave

Newcastle United

Newcastle United are ready to sell goalkeeper Karl Darlow as well as winger Ryan Fraser in the January transfer window, as per The Athletic. The Magpies do not need the shot stopper after recalling Martin Dubravka from Manchester United – while Fraser has fallen out of favour in the squad too.

Eddie Howe’s squad currently has 27 senior players, which is two more than the 25 who can be registered for the Premier League squad. It’s added that the gaffer is looking to make some room for the signing of a new defensive midfielder in January, as he hopes to strengthen his squad for the second half of the league campaign.

The Magpies have already notified Fraser and Darlow that they are free to leave the club. The 28-year-old winger is viewed as the club’s most sellable asset right now and one which the head coach is ready to offload, adds The Athletic. He tried to leave the club in the summer, but Newcastle’s failure to sign another winger blocked his exit, it’s also stated.

However, only loan offers will be entertained for Fraser because Newcastle does not want to sell him in January. They are also ready to let Darlow – who was called ‘absolutely awesome’ by Sky Sports pundit Matt Murray a few years ago – leave because their squad already has five senior goalkeepers, which is the maximum a Premier League side can have.

Newcastle Could Be Boosted by January Departures

The Magpies are gunning for a top-three finish in the Premier League this season after enjoying a brilliant first half of the campaign. They are fighting with Manchester United for that third place and are neck-and-neck with the Red Devils for the spot as well.

It’s also added that Newcastle are keen to trim down their wage bill as well by moving on some players who aren’t essential to the squad. The Athletic also adds that while Howe’s ability to make signings isn’t based on outgoing business, his chances of signing new players will be boosted by that.

With the Magpies gunning for Champions League qualification, they’ll look to have the best possible squad available and help maintain their impressive charge in this campaign.
