At the moment, Anthony Martial is the only natural no.9 in the Red Devils’ squad – which is causing manager Erik ten Hag some problems due to the Frenchman’s injury-prone nature. But Romano adds that the decision-makers at Old Trafford are currently focused on their summer business more than on making signings during the January transfer window.

While it has been reported that United are close to signing Wout Weghorst on loan for the rest of the season, the club are planning to sign a high-quality, long-term striker only in the summer. However, Romano has revealed that it is too early for any concrete targets to be named yet. That is, in part, because of the situation revolving around the club being put up for sale and possibly being sold by the Glazers in early 2023.

United to Keep On Investing Heavily Under Ten Hag

The Manchester side have already shown a lot of support to Erik ten Hag and invested heavily to improve his squad in the 2022 summer transfer window. They spent over £200 million in transfer fees last year, signing quality players like Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez to bring more character to the first team.

While it is uncertain which striker United will prioritise on signing in the summer, ESPN claims that they are eyeing possible moves for Victor Osimhen, Harry Kane and Benjamin Sesko. The Red Devils are well aware that they need a world-class striker who can reliably score 25-30 goals per season for them to get back to strongly competing in competitions like the Premier League and Champions League.
