Chelsea are not going to make a move to sign Cristiano Ronaldo in the January transfer window, confirms Fabrizio Romano. This is despite their ongoing mission to sign a new centre-forward to improve their frontline.

Chelsea Striker Addition Desperately Needed Despite Dismissing Ronaldo Transfer

Graham Potter’s side suffered a major blow in a friendly against Aston Villa last week, in which Armando Broja suffered a major injury that has ruled him out for the rest of the season. This has only accelerated their plans to sign a new number nine in January, but they are still not interested in the ex-Manchester United forward.

Romano adds that there are no negotiations between Chelsea and Ronaldo over a possible winter move, despite the forward currently being a free agent.

Todd Boehly was interested in bringing him into the squad in the summer window, but the then-manager Thomas Tuchel did not approve the move. Now that Ronaldo – who has been dubbed as ‘phenomenal’ this season – is once again on the market, the London side is not interested anymore to enter the race to sign him.

Chelsea Striker Crisis Must be Addressed in January Transfer Window

Chelsea are now going to step up their chase to sign a new forward and are looking into multiple options to act as a replacement for the injured Armando Broja. The Blues have already almost finalized the signing of RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku, who will be joining the club next season.

Boehly has been working really hard to improve his squad ever since taking over as the new co-owner of the club. The Blues spent more money than any other club in Europe in the summer window, making some blockbuster signings including defenders Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly.

But that isn’t going to stop the London side from further strengthening their squad in January. Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the only available natural centre-forward in the squad, the Blues will need to prioritize the signing of a new forward as soon as the January window opens.
