USA Predicted Lineup vs Wales for First USMNT Match in Eight Years

Tyler Adams captains the USA predicted lineup

The USA has made it to its first World Cup in eight years, having stumbled during qualification for Russia 2018. Take a look at Last Word on Football’s USA predicted lineup, and see the players looking to make a difference to the States’ chances.

USA Predicted Lineup vs Wales

How the USA Have Lined-up Recently

The USA starts with Arsenal’s Matt Turner in goal, protected by Aaron Long and Walker Zimmerman. Sergino Dest and Antonee Robinson play as the wing-backs, with Dest on the right. Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and Yunus Musah start in midfield.

The USMNT has a front line featuring Christian Pulisic on the left, Brenden Aaronson on the right (changing from his central position at Leeds United) and Jesus Ferreira at centre-forward.

USA Recent Form and Tactics

Gregg Berhalter’s team plays in a 4-3-3, with a focus on holding the ball and passing in deep positions. By retaining possession and passing the ball around, the Americans draw in their opponents and encourage a press. This opens up space behind for fast and nimble players such as Aaronson and Pulisic to break free.

The side will need to do a lot of work on the training pitch to improve on recent form. With only one win in five (against a weak Grenada side), Berhalter’s side will require an immediate change to have the impact they desire in the tournament.

USA Injuries to Consider

In his press conference ahead of the Wales match, the USA manager didn’t mention any injuries. This is clearly something he is keeping in mind, as he specifically mentioned the need for rotation and using substitutes in a way that helps the team later in the tournament.
