Vivell Has Positive Talks With Chelsea Over the Role
The German director was recently fired by Bundesliga side RB Leipzig as he had a ‘differences of opinion’ with the other members of management at the club. He’s now a free agent and available to join any club, which is why Todd Boehly’s side have pounced on him. Romano adds that Chelsea had a meeting with the 35-year-old on Tuesday in London – one which was a really positive one and one in which the Premier League side were left impressed by him.

He is now expected to join the Blues after the meeting, having earned a decent reputation for himself with his work at Leipzig. While nothing has been signed between the parties yet, Vivell will join the London giants as their new sporting director – relieving Boehly of the transfer negotiations duties that he assumed after taking over the club earlier this year.
Vivell’s History as a Director Recapped
The 35-year-old has earned quite the reputation for identifying and signing quality young talents over the years. He only joined the Bundesliga side in 2020, after impressing during his years at RB Salzburg from 2015 to 2020. He worked as the head of scouting for the Austrian side and was responsible for identifying talents like Patson Daka, Karim Adeyemi and Erling Haaland – who he helped bring to Salzburg from Molde and then sell for a much higher fee.

At Leipzig, Vivell helped sign the likes of Angelino, and Andre Silva as well as current Chelsea target Josko Gvardiol. Not only is he a smart technical director, but the 35-year-old’s history of working as a scout will help him find underrated young talents for the Blues too. If he comes aboard soon and does not bail on them as Christoph Freund did, the Premier League side could be getting a bright, young director to take them forward.
