Arsenal have been impressive in the opening exchanges of the Premier League season, and find themselves one point ahead of reigning champions Manchester City heading into the international break.
Despite having plenty of attacking options at their disposal, the Gunners are reportedly planning a January window move for in-demand Eintracht Frankfurt creative midfielder, Jesper Lindstrom. The Mirror reports that no less than seven clubs are vying for the Dane’s signature, with the Emirates appearing as the most likely destination to press.
European Pedigree
Lindstrom lifted the Europa League trophy with The Eagles last term after his side overcame Scottish outfit Rangers in a dramatic penalty shoot-out in Seville. He featured nine times en route to Eintracht’s first major continental final since 1980 and has already made an elusive contribution to the German side’s new Champions League campaign, grabbing the winner against Marseille in the Orange Velodrome.
His move to Frankfurt came after a successful final season in his native Denmark, helping hometown club Brondby secure the Danish Superliga in the coronavirus-impacted 2020-21 season.
Another Special Window for Arsenal?
Arenal’s summer transfer business was the envy of most top-flight clubs, securing the services, amongst others, of current club top scorer Gabriel Jesus, and experienced Ukrainian international Oleksandr Zinchenko. The new recruits seem to have propelled Arsenal to another level this season, and Arteta will be desperate to keep the North Londoners as far up the league as possible. Successfully acquiring Lindstrom’s signature, which would serve to enhance the attacking flair already brought by Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, would certainly aid them in this cause.
Reports have also emerged that the club met with representatives of Ukrainian international Mkyhaylo Mudryk last summer. However, interest now seems to have cooled after parent club Shakhtar Donetsk placed a £50m price tag on the pacey wide man. Arsenal are looking to make an impact on a league without having the budget of Manchester City, so could look for shrewder investments.
