Barcelona have announced that they have extended the contract of their young midfielder Gavi. The teenager’s recent deal was due to expire in 2023, but he has pledged his allegiance to his childhood club, extending his stay at the Camp Nou.
Barcelona Announce New Contract for Gavi
Details of Gavi’s New Deal Revealed
The Blaugrana have handed the midfielder a new four-year contract until June 30, 2026, ending months of speculation and negotiations. However, it’s the release clause added to the deal that is truly eye-catching.
Barcelona have confirmed that Gavi’s release clause is set at a whopping £868 million, a statement that they do not want to lose him anytime soon. The midfielder’s old contract contained a £43.8 million release clause, which had Bayern Munich and Liverpool interested.

The reason why the La Liga side have added such crazy release clauses for their players comes from the fear of seeing that clause being activated by a team, as happened in 2017 when PSG paid the £191 million release clause to sign Neymar.
Barcelona hosted a contract signing ceremony at Camp Nou on Thursday, September 15. Fans attended the event, which saw the Spanish international sign the deal before having a press conference alongside President Joan Laporta.
Gavi’s Remarkable Journey at Barcelona So Far
A product of the famous La Masia academy, Gavi made his official debut for the Camp Nou giants in August 2021 and has not looked back since. The 18-year-old has already featured heavily for them since the start of last season, making 53 appearances for them and being involved in 8 goals (2 goals, 6 assists).

The teenager has also broken into the Spanish national team making ten appearances for Luis Enrique’s side. Gavi has been compared to the likes of Andres Iniesta and current Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez in being a highly skilful midfielder with the ability to control games, and also deliver in the final third. He has been described as “spectacular” by Xavi and is set to remain a vital part of the Catalan giants for years to come.
