Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that Liverpool have signed Arthur Melo from Juventus. According to a recent post from Fabrizio Romano, the deal is for a loan.
The Brazilian is a late addition to the squad for Jurgen Klopp, who has seen his midfield options dwindle due to injuries. His side has been patient and pulled off a late move for a defensive-minded midfielder to add to his options and depth in the squad.

Extraordinary Midfielder
Once described by Massimiliano Allegri as a player with “extraordinary technical abilities”, the 26-year-old will bring a strong passing ability to Anfield. He will sit deep and make smart passes while also putting in a shift on the defensive end, something which seems custom-made for Klopp’s style of play.

A loan deal works for all parties as The Reds get some instant depth and could make the move permanent if it works out, and if not they can move on having developed the player further for Il Bianconeri.

Inconsistent Game Time
Despite his previously heralded technical abilities, Melo has found it tough to get consistent games throughout his career. That does mean he’s used to fighting for a role off the bench but it does beg the question if he’s Premier League quality. After coming to prominence at Gremio the midfielder made the move to Barcelona where he made 44 appearances in his first season, but just 22 of those were in the league. The next season he only made 28 appearances for the Spanish giants.

This trend has continued since his move to Italy where he played 32 times in his debut season, with 22 of those coming in the league. His 2021/22 campaign went similarly with 31 games to his credit, in which only 20 were in the league.
