‘Set to Sign’: After Impressive Victory Fabrizio Romano Reveals Manchester United Have Full Agreement on Deal to Loan Out Eric Bailly to Marseille

Eric Bailly

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is now “set to sign” for Olympique Marseille, according to Fabrizio Romano. The transfer insider revealed following United’s emphatic 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Monday night that the French side are closing in on an agreement with the player on personal terms, while the clubs already have a deal in place. Should Marseille reach the Champions League next season, this loan will become a permanent signing, and we could see Bailly fly out to France as early as tomorrow.

Manchester United’s Season Looking Up and They Have Plenty of Central Defensive Options

After an embarrassing opening two games of the Premier League season, Erik ten Hag struck gold on Monday night with a magical victory over arch-rivals Liverpool.

The Red Devils were fantastic all across the pitch, with immaculate pressing and excellent quality on the ball. However, almost certainly the most remarkable part of their performance was the way they defended.

New signing Tyrell Malacia was outstanding on the left-hand side of the defence, while Diogo Dalot also put in an impressive shift on the right, never giving in to Liverpool’s pressure.

The centre-back paring of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, who recently signed from Ajax, was truly remarkable, though. Based on this match, it would seem a no-brainer for Ten Hag to stick with this duo for the foreseeable future, but with club captain Harry Maguire also in the mix, it’s not an easy decision. Victor Lindelof is a solid option in the heart of the backline as well, while Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones present additional options for the new boss to call upon.

With so many players available, at least one had to go, and it looks as though Bailly has been sacrificed, at least for the time being.
