It is no secret that Manchester United fans are unhappy with their ownership.
Several protests have taken place outside Old Trafford in the past few months, and these look as though they won’t stop until there is a regime change. This could be coming much sooner than expected, with former board member Michael Knighton revealing in an interview that he is looking to take over the club and provide fans with their desired 25.1% holding of shares, something which would give them significant influence over the side’s activities, and the ability to veto ideas like the European Super League.
Consortium Could Perform Hostile Takeover of Manchester United ‘Very Shortly’
What Michael Knighton Said in His Interview
Michael Knighton is a former member of the Manchester United board, who arrived there in a rather unconventional way. The British businessman famously made a bid to take over the Red Devils back in 1989, but after this was accepted, he lost part of his funding and ended up having to abort the attempted acquisition, instead settling for a seat on United’s board.
Knighton could be back, though, as he is looking to perform a hostile takeover of the club.
When asked in an exclusive interview with YouTube channel Man Utd The Religion about potential fan protests before United’s next game against Liverpool, he said: “Of course, they will protest, and quite rightly. It’s the only way that they can vent their frustration and disappointment, and [they will] hope that the current ownership sit up and finally listen, and ultimately decide to sell their shareholding.
“My consortium is ready and waiting, the funds are pledged, the offer document is being drawn up, and it will be presented.”
“My consortium will be placing their bid very shortly. That, I guarantee”
