As reported by Fernando Polo of Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong. The former Ajax midfielder’s playing style is reportedly less appealing to Barcelona manager Xavi than that of Bernardo Silva, and as such he would like the Portuguese to replace De Jong

Big Boost for United
According to Fernando Polo, the Dutchman’s style of play doesn’t interest Xavi. De Jong earns a reported £176k at the Camp Nou, and with the club’s financial woes, they are seemingly looking to offload the Dutchman to pave the way for a swoop for Bernardo Silva.
The 25-year-old Dutchman is described, in many quarters, as a special player. Despite his having expressed his desire to remain at Barcelona, the reports of Xavi looking elsewhere have handed Manchester United a vital boost in their pursuit of De Jong.
De Jong to Bolster Manchester United
De Jong may be edging towards the exit door at Barcelona, but with notable performances at the highest level and being a central midfielder, he would be a welcome boost at Old Trafford. United have lost some key players this summer, including Paul Pogba, Jessie Lingard and Juan Mata.

Nemanja Matic has also departed Old Trafford this summer, and the arrival of De Jong would be a vital signing for the Red Devils in what is a crucial summer for a club clearly in transition.
The Barcelona man is calm on the ball and has intelligence off the ball. His decision-making is one of his most impressive assets, alongside his vision and passing ability. De Jong would be a vital signing to kick off the new era at Old Trafford.
