Manchester United ‘Activate’ Frenkie De Jong Move Amid Strong Interest
Erik ten Hag Set to Sign a Pair of Midfielders in Old Trafford Rebuild
Manchester United appear to be leading the race for Frenkie De Jong. The Dutchman has worked with his compatriot Eric ten Hag before at Ajax, and the pair could link up again at the Theatre of Dreams with an agreement with Barcelona seemingly getting closer and closer. All that is left for United is to convince the player of their project.
Although Barcelona were keen on keeping him, the Spanish side’s finances are in a dire state, and in order to help, the talented midfielder could well be sold. With other youngsters at manager Xavi’s disposal, including exciting duo Gavi and Pedri, he could accept the loss of De Jong, although the situation is less than ideal.
Even without Champions League football, De Jong could move. Linking back up with Ten Hag will certainly be an attraction for him after they formed a bond at Ajax, although it will only be in the Europa League during his proposed first season in Manchester. De Jong understands the playing style of his former boss better than most.

United need to strengthen their squad, and in De Jong they would get a star player. The midfielder played 32 games, scored three goals and assisted the same number of times last campaign. With the exit of De Jong from Barcelona looking likely, United are on the way to getting their prime target.
Signing De Jong would be enormous for United. His addition would represent a big step towards returning to the top four, and thus the Champions League, as they look to get back to their best.
