According to OneSoccer and corroborating recent reports, Chelsea Women are heavily linked with a move for Kadeisha Buchanan. Buchanan is a world-class defender who is available for free as her contract with Lyon is set to expire. OneSoccer notes that she is in line for a “special” transfer which lines up with recent comments from her agent Alan Naiaigeon that a club had impressed by “…offering something that we have never seen before for a defender”
Kadeisha Buchanan Linked With Chelsea Women
World-Class
The term world-class gets thrown around an awful lot but there are few defenders in women’s football better than Buchanan. The three-time Canadian Player of The Year has won trophies at international level and at club level since joining Lyon, building one of the most impressive trophy lists in world football with an incredible five Champions League wins to her name as well as five Division 1 Feminine titles. Buchanan is not only comfortable on the ball but her reading of the game is second to none as she is always in the perfect spot to cut out an opponent’s attack. Earlier this season Chelsea struggled with their defence but signing Kadeisha should help shore things up quite well as they aim to push on in Europe.

Chelsea Ambitions
After a humiliating Champion’s League final defeat and subsequent group stage exit, Chelsea are aiming to build a squad capable of challenging in Europe as well as retaining the WSL title. With Manchester City Women strengthening and veteran players like Ji So-Yun leaving Chelsea the club needed reinforcements. Picking up Kadeisha Buchanan will go a long way to helping Chelsea move forward with their goals as she allows for more tactical flexibility. Buchanan could slot in as the main ball-handling defender to allow Jess Carter to focus on defending, or Buchanan could take Carter’s spot entirely if Emma Hayes opts for a formation with only two central defenders.
Chelsea women are far from done with transfer activity but kicking things off with a world-class signing is sure to fill the fanbase with the hope of achieving a fourth WSL win in a row and maybe, just maybe, hopes of success in the Champions League.
