Villarreal defender Pau Torres remains a transfer target for Manchester United and Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 25-year-old Spanish defender has been a key player for the Yellow Submarine as they reached the Champions League semi-final before losing out to Liverpool.
Villarreal Defender Remains on Radar of Premier League Clubs
Career So Far
Capped 17 times by Spain, the left-sided centre back has been an important player for Villarreal since making his debut for the club back in 2017.
He turned out 65 times for the B team and has gone on to make over 125 senior appearances for his hometown club.
Torres was part of the Villarreal side that clinched the Europa League in 2021/21 and his performances over the past few seasons have caught the eye of several Premier League clubs.
Manchester United
Among those clubs are Manchester United. It is no secret that the Red Devils are in need of a summer rebuild, with the heart of defence an area that certainly needs recruitment.
Harry Maguire has often been criticised for his performances while the likes of Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have also come into question.
Torres would be a useful addition but Manchester United face a battle with other top-flight teams.
Chelsea
Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea have also shown interest in the defender for some time. Similarly to Manchester United, the Blues will need several defensive additions in the summer with Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso all linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge.
With his release clause currently set at €55 million, and the Spanish club looking to cash in on the defender, it appears a bargain transfer for someone in the summer.
Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur Have Also Been Linked With Villarreal Defender
It’s no secret that Manchester City and Tottenham have also shown interest in a move for the Villarreal defender.
City aren’t lacking in that department but still strengthen their squad each summer, as is the case with the imminent arrival of Erling Haaland.
Antonio Conte is also looking to bring the Spaniard to the Premier League, with Spurs another club that have often struggled defensively.
