Southampton defender Valentino Livramento will be sidelined until at least the end of 2022 with an ACL injury.
Southampton Defender Tino Livramento Suffers Injury Blow
Young Defender to Miss Rest of Season
The Athletic reports that surgery will be required after further tests in the coming days. The 19-year-old defender was down with an injury for several minutes before being substituted in the first half of Southampton’s last Premier League fixture against Brighton.
Southampton’s manager Ralph Hasenhüttl was worried in the post-match interview, saying that the injury looks “very serious”. However, he stated that everyone in the club believes that Livramento will come back even stronger after the injury.
The former Chelsea academy star, who was bought for around £5 million, was having a dream first season. He made 31 appearances in all competitions, providing 1 goal and 1 assist. This is even more remarkable, considering the strong competition for the right-back position in the team. Romain Perraud and Kyle Walker-Peters have seen their playing time reduced due to the breakout season of the young Livramento.
His great performances were also noticed by England U21 head coach Lee Carsley. Livramento featured in 5 games for the youth national team and will be eager to represent his country again after the injury.
Southampton Will Be Without Young Star for Upcoming Fixtures
Tino Livramento has played an important role in the Saints squad this season. Shadowing breakout star Kyle Walker-Peters, Livramento really has grown into his role since joining from Chelsea. At just 19 he is already starting to show great promise. Just like his teammate Walker-Peters, he has also been able to grow since leaving his top four club. This injury is no doubt a big setback. But providing he can recover well from his surgery, the young Southampton star still has plenty of time to pick things up again next season.
Hitting 40 points is a big step towards staving off relegation. And with Crystal Palace, Brentford and Leicester City coming up, Saint still have plenty of battles fight without Livramento.
