It has been confirmed today by the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano that Tottenham Hotspur have completed the contract extension for Oliver Skipp. This renewal will see Skipp at the club until June 2027.
Oliver Skipp New Contract Deal Rewards Spurs Midfielder’s Graft
Antonio Conte’s Plans For The Midfielder
The midfielder is reported to be ‘very grateful’ that Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici, managing director for Tottenham, have decided to renew his contract and Skipp is looking to repay the favour.
Skipp, now 21, emerged from the Spurs academy and made his first senior appearance in October 2018. Since his debut, he has featured 52 times for Spurs. He has recently become a mainstay in the midfield, featuring 28 times under Antonio Conte and his predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo in this campaign.
The club have taken a liking to Skipp and specifically, Conte has tipped him to become a ‘top midfielder’ in the future. It is clear that the club are keen to include him in their plans moving forward and that both parties are happy with this agreement.
His absence through a long-term pelvis injury has frustrated the head coach Antonio Conte – it is noted that he has continually urged the medical staff to pay close attention to Skipp to accelerate his recovery.
The Contract In More Depth
The long-term contract will keep Skipp in Spurs’ ranks for another five years, where then his contract will again be up for discussion.
The deal sees Skipp take home what is believed to be upwards of £80,000-a-week plus bonuses.
With the influential midfielder poised for a return, this may look to boost Tottenham’s hopes for a top-four finish. With European football hopefully on the horizon for next season, Conte is looking ahead to bolster the squad with quality.
