Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has signed a new four-year deal at the club with an option of an extra year.

The Portuguese international’s new contract will see him stay at the club until July 2026 and will earn him around £240,000 a week.

Bruno Fernandes’ Manchester United Story So Far

Since joining the Red Devils in January 2020 from Sporting Lisbon for £46 million, Fernandes has been one of the club’s best players.

The midfielder has played 117 times for United, scoring 49 goals and assisting 39 others.

For the past two seasons, it is safe to say Fernandes has been United’s talisman, helping the club reach the Europa League final along with multiple other semi-finals.

Although things have slowed down slightly this season for United’s number 18, he will look to play a big role in the top four race as we enter the Premier League run-in.

Speaking to manutd.com in January, Fernandes has ambitions to bring the Red Devils back to their best, he said: “My ambition is still the same. I want to win trophies with the club.

“That will always be in my mind until the last day I am at the club. I don’t know when that will be but, until then, I will believe that I can win trophies with this club because I think we can and I think the club deserves it, the fans deserve it and also the players, we deserve to win a trophy.

“Whenever that is, we have to do it step by step and understand we have those qualities but we have to understand how to do it, how to put everything together – the qualities and the intensity and everything.”

Fernandes Could be Star Man for New Manager

As Manchester United’s search for a new manager intensifies, Fernandes signing a long term contract shows that he will be a part of the club’s future plans, no matter who the coach is.

With Erik ten Hag leading the race to the Old Trafford dugout his use of the 4-3-3 / 4-3-2-1 formations could bring out the best of Bruno Fernandes.

With players such as Edinson Cavani, Cristiano Ronaldo, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba rumoured to be leaving the club in the summer, next season could see Fernandes really step up and be one of the main leaders of the squad.
