AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie has completed a medical with Barcelona ahead of joining the Spanish giants on a free transfer this summer, Fabrizio Romano reports.
The 25-year-old’s contract in Milan expires this summer and he has opted not to extend his stay in Italy.
Instead, Kessie will join Xavi’s Barcelona, who are looking to return to past heights following a rocky period, in La Liga.

Kessie a Solid Addition to Xavi’s In-Form Barcelona
Barcelona endured a tricky period last summer that at its worst saw Lionel Messi forced to leave the club for Paris Saint-Germain. Whilst things have looked bleak for some time now, they are starting to take a turn for the better. Following the January signings of Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Barcelona are hitting their best form again, particularly highlighted in Sunday night’s 4-0 win in El Clasico.
That duo have scored eight of Barca’s last 12 goals proving recruitment, since Xavi took the reins, has been going very well.
Xavi, a former midfielder himself, is now looking to add Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie to the fold. Kessie is a reliable midfielder, who can sit defensively or play a bit more advanced. He also has a goal in him and can take a penalty. He wouldn’t have been short of interest this summer, being available on a free, either, so appears to have chosen Xavi’s side.
Romano states that Barcelona have a verbal agreement with AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie that will see him earn a salary of €6.5 million. The official contracts are to be completed in the coming weeks.
Kessie joined Milan from Atalanta in 2019 and has made 214 appearances since, scoring 36 and assisting 16.
An Ivory Coast international, Kessie has made over 50 appearances for his country.
