United Sign Denmark Player of the Year
The Lyon forward has made a temporary switch to Manchester in an exciting move. The 23-year-old was recently voted Denmark’s Player of the Year. Bruun has scored 14 goals in 19 games for her country.
Before joining Lyon, Bruun started her senior career with Fortuna Hjorring. In 2018, she made the move to France, joining Paris Saint-Germain. Bruun made the move to Lyon last year and has managed to amass an impressive goalscoring tally everywhere she goes.
Manchester United have seemed keen to get a striker in throughout the winter window. They reportedly lost out to Arsenal in pursuit of Swedish forward Stina Blackstenius, who happened to make her Gunners debut v United – though Alessia Russo’s strike to win the game and progress to the Conti Cup semi-final softened that blow.
In the end, United’s addition of Bruun could really go down as a coup. A young striker with an impressive goal tally, she really could be anything in the Women’s Super League, which makes for plenty of excitement and intrigue.
Bruun will only add to what is a ruthless Red Devils side at the moment, winning all of their last six games – two of them 5-0 – and without conceding.
They are third in the WSL and on course to achieve their target of qualification Champions League football.
Bruun Has Been Following United Project
Upon signing for Manchester United, Bruun told the club website: “It’s amazing to be here, I’m really happy to be joining Manchester United. It is a big club with huge history, I have followed the women’s project for a while and have seen the progression of the team, and I think this move was a perfect match for me.
“I want to be able to help the team as much as possible during my time here, hopefully with a lot of goals but also a lot of hard work too. I can’t wait to get started on the training pitch with the players and staff ahead of a busy period of games.”
Head coach Marc Skinner added: “We are delighted to welcome Signe to the club, she is an exceptional player, and it really shows the ambition of the club in securing this move. Signe’s talent speaks for itself but her ability to find the narrowest of spaces in the box and be so deadly in front of goal is something that we’re really excited to see.
“She is still so young and will definitely compliment the fantastic talent we already have in this team. She also has that experience of big games, especially in the Champions League, so we’re all looking forward to seeing her thrive here.”
The signing of Bruun follows United’s earlier additions of Diane Caldwell and Jade Moore on transfer deadline day.
