As the January transfer window draws to a close, the business from Tottenham Hotspur seems far from over. Antonio Conte has identified players he would like to bring in, and, on the other side of things, there could be some outgoings. One such man is Bryan Gil, with a loan deal on the cards as per Fabrizio Romano.
Bryan Gil to go in search of more playing time
Youngster Struggling for Game-Time
Spurs signed Bryan Gil prior to the start of this season, and for both player and club, it has been a tumultuous time. Not only did Tottenham dismiss Nuno Espirito Santo after just four months at the helm, but Gil has struggled to get regular minutes. The Spaniard has featured prevalently in the Europa Conference League but has made just eight Premier League appearances this campaign. There are a number of players that can operate in the same position as Gil, whether it be Giovani Lo Celso or Steven Bergwijn for example. Thus, Gil is now likely to return to his home country on loan.
The 20-year-old is attracting interest from a number of clubs across the continent. Real Sociedad and Nice, two intriguing, attacking teams are amongst those at the fore. However, it is Valencia that are leading the way. The Spanish side are managed by Jose Bordalas who made his name by reaching dizzy heights with Getafe, but besides Goncalo Guedes, there is a dearth of wide and attacking talent at the club, so Gil could become a great asset there. This move makes sense for all parties.
What Would See This Deal Go Over the Line?
Given that it is January, the majority of teams are less willing to let players go. Tottenham on the other hand, with Antonio Conte being a relatively new presence in the technical area, are more inclined than most to do so. Whether Gil gets loaned out or not could be decided by the future of two players. Adama Traore of Wolves is said to be the North London side’ number one target and he has become far less important at Molineux since the arrival of Bruno Lage. Traore would likely be deployed in that right wingback role; the squad space along with his attacking threat would make the absence of Gil even less of an issue.
The other name worth mentioning is Tanguy Ndombele. The Frenchman has had an indifferent time in North London with a number of managers coming in and not being able to get the best out of him. Reports suggest that Tottenham want rid of the midfielder but due to his large wages, it could be easier said than done. Going on from that, there is talk of a swap deal that would see Ndombele return to France to play for PSG while Argentinian Leandro Paredes goes the other way. Ndombele’s future may play a part in that of Gil, we shall have to see.
