Sergej Milinkovic-Savic Pledges Allegiance to Lazio

Amidst the swelling rumours that a move is on the cards, Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has spoken of his commitment for his current side. The Serbian has long since been a target for European superpowers, most notably Manchester United. The talk of a fall out with manager Maurizio Sarri only added fuel to the fire but as per a Fabrizio Romano report, Milinkovic-Savic is content in the Eternal city.

The midfielder said: “I see a lot of rumours about me but… I don’t care! I just want Lazio to win.” Both Sarri and Milinkovic-Savic have been known in the past to be prickly figures and so a fallout wouldn’t be the most ludicrous occurrence.

Move Ruled Out

Lazio have been a great watch under former Juventus and Napoli boss Sarri, with Milinkovic-Savic contributing greatly. In past seasons, he’s lacked the cutting edge in the final third. That isn’t the case this term though with five goals and six assists in just over 1,400 minutes being a strong return. This is only bettered by frontman Ciro Immobile and World Cup winner Pedro.

The red half of Manchester was said to be the most likely destination for the Serb as a midfielder seems to be the final piece to their complex puzzle. That being said, the Lazio man isn’t anywhere near as defensive as Fred and Scott McTominay meaning the links to other targets – those more defensive – make more sense for Manchester United.

With a January move now supposedly off of the cards, Milinkovic-Savic can fully lock into Lazio’s domestic campaign where they currently occupy eighth in the Serie A standings. Alongside that, Porto await in the first knockout stage of the Europa League, a tournament that Sarri went all the way in with Chelsea.
