Key Player at Rangers
The 25-year-old Finland international has become a key player in Steven Gerrard‘s team. He has now made over 100 appearances for the Scottish side, scoring four goals and assisting six after joining from Dundee in 2017.
He has already made nine appearances this season, helping Rangers to top spot in the Scottish Premiership.
Kamara was handed a three-game suspension by UEFA for assaulting Slavia Prague player Ondrej Kudela, who was also suspended, given a ten-game ban for racial abuse. That ban saw Kamara miss out on Rangers’ Champions League qualifying clash with Malmo, which they lost.
The Finnish midfielder is popular around the club and lifted the Scottish Premiership title in 2020/21. His efforts were also appreciated by the PFA, who named him in their 2020/21 Scottish Premiership Team of the Year.
Before moving to Scotland, he came through the academy at Arsenal, where he also had loan spells at Southend United and Colchester United.
He has settled in Scotland for the last four years now and will continue to remain there after signing his new contract.
Glen Kamara Loving His Time With the Scottish Champions
Kamara told rangers.co.uk: “I am delighted to have committed my long-term future to Rangers.
“I have absolutely loved my time here and being a part of the title-winning team last season has given me the hunger to try to win even more in the seasons ahead.
“It was an easy decision for me to sign and I want to thank the manager, Ross Wilson and the board for the faith they have shown in me.”
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard added: “Glenn is a highly respected member of our squad, who has displayed outstanding technical ability and leadership since he signed for Rangers. He plays an integral role in our system and is vital to our style of play.
“As a staff, we have really enjoyed watching him develop and thrive in our environment. Glen still has potential to achieve a lot more at Rangers, adding to his big contribution towards winning 55.
“His contract extension is not only great news for Glen as a player, but for everyone at Rangers.”
Kamara has made 34 appearances for Finland, scoring once.
Sporting director Ross Wilson also told rangers.co.uk: “Naturally I am really pleased that we have reached an agreement with Glen. Not only is he an excellent member of our squad, he’s also a superb person to have in our dressing (room) and around the club every day.
“He’s held in high esteem by players and staff alike and we know that he has more levels to come in the future.”
