Highly Coveted Wonderkid
Camavinga is one of the most highly rated wonderkids in world football.
The midfielder has been a regular for boyhood club Rennes for the past two seasons, but was considered a fantastic prospect even before that.
Impressing in particular with his defensive ability, Camavinga was always likely to be offered a massive move, with many top clubs reportedly having targetted him.
Manchester United, who have been searching–to no avail–for a defensive midfielder this summer, have been rumoured to be monitoring the 18-year-old’s situation throughout the last two months, while Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with him. It was reported that the latter would be Camavinga’s preferred destination, favouring a move within his native France over transferring abroad.
At just 18 years of age, Camavinga already has a fantastic wealth of experience under his belt.
Hi breakthrough season saw him help his side to Champions League qualification for the first time in their history, and in that same campaign they placed third; their highest ever league position.
While Camavinga was playing Europa League football in his breakout year, he moved onto Europe’s most elite club competition in the next.
Rennes may only have earned one point from their Champions League group, but the experience that the midfielder earned from playing top teams like Chelsea would have been invaluable for his development.
Now, Real Madrid have beaten both United and PSG to the signature of Camavinga, who chose the Spanish giants over the other two clubs who showed considerable interest in him this summer.
