It’s been another busy day of transfers in the EFL, with the Championship a particularly lively division. Teams are now two matches into their regular season but still have until the end of the month to wrap up any business, and it’s clear there are still a lot of deals to be done. Here is a round-up of today’s main EFL transfer news.
EFL Transfer News: Ben Davies, Phil Jagielka and More
Davies Completes Blades Loan
Sheffield United have completed the signing of defender Ben Davies from Liverpool. The centre-back becomes Slavisa Jokanovic’s first signing in charge of the Blades.
Davies joined Liverpool in January in the midst of their defensive crisis. However, he failed to make an appearance for the Reds following the move from Preston North End.
Despite the initial surprise behind his move to the Premier League, it was generally seen as a shrewd acquisition by the club. It was the form of young pair Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams that kept Davies out of the team.
Goal’s Neil Jones reports that Liverpool have received a £500,000 loan fee for Davies and will receive another £500,000 should Sheffield United gain promotion.

Jagielka on Verge of Joining Derby
One of the gaps Davies has filled at Sheffield United is one left behind by veteran defender Phil Jagielka. Now, the former Everton and England centre-back looks set to sign for Derby County, reports The Telegraph’s John Percy.
Jagielka is a free agent after leaving the Blades at the end of last season. Derby have only been able to sign free agents this summer due to a strict embargo placed on them by the EFL.
The Rams have been heavily tipped to go down this season. They earned a point on the opening day and scraped past Salford City on penalties in the first round of the Carabao Cup. However, they conceded twice in second-half stoppage time to lose 2-1 at Peterborough United on Saturday.
Percy adds that they are also hopeful of signing Sam Baldock following his departure from Reading. Wayne Rooney’s side look short up front following the injury to Colin Kazim-Richards.
Sunderland Bring in Broadhead
Sunderland have completed the loan addition of Everton striker Nathan Broadhead. The 23-year-old joins Lee Johnson’s side for the full 2021/22 campaign.
Broadhead has already spent time in League One having been on loan at Burton Albion in the 2019/20 campaign, where he scored three goals in 22 games.
Last season, the striker scored 11 times and registered three assists for Everton’s U21 side in their Premier League 2 season.
✍️ We are delighted to announce the loan signing of Nathan Broadhead from Everton until the end of the 2021-22 season.

Broadhead, who joins Alex Pritchard, Callum Doyle, Corry Evans, Dennis Cirkin and Frederik Alves in moving to the Stadium of Light this summer, said: “It’s been a mad 48 hours from being on the bench for Everton to arriving in Sunderland, but I’m so happy to be here.
“I’ve had a good pre-season, training and playing for the first team and travelling with them to America, and I’m sure that will help me hit the ground running.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve played in front of fans due to the pandemic and Sunderland is a massive club, so I can’t wait to get out there.”
Blackburn Sign Clarkson
Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of young Liverpool left-back Leighton Clarkson.
The teenager, who is a former season ticket holder at Blackburn, joins Rovers on a season-long loan.
Clarkson has been on the fringes of the Liverpool squad in recent months and made his professional debut in the League Cup quarter-final game against Aston Villa in December 2019.
He also started in Liverpool’s 1-0 FA Cup Replay win against Shrewsbury Town in 2020.
Chukwuemeka Makes Premier League Move
Finally, Northampton Town have confirmed that teenage striker Caleb Chukwuemeka has joined Premier League side Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.
The 19-year-old, therefore, joins up with his brother, Carney, who is another product of the Northampton academy.
Chukwuemeka made four starts and 24 substitute appearances for the Cobblers and scored on two occasions.
