Dennis Cirkin Evaluating Options in Search of Development
Cirkin Seeking First-Team Football
Last year, Dennis Cirkin earned the praise of Jose Mourinho. However, more than a year later, it seems as if the 19-year-old could be leaving the club.
Despite Mourinho praising the youngster, the left-back has yet to feature for the first-team, spending his development as part of the U18 and U23 squad, playing a huge part within the ranks of the younger talent at the club.
In the past few days, it has been reported by Alasdair Gold, cited by the THFC Blog’s Twitter account, that Cirkin turned down talks for a new deal. League One side Sunderland are reportedly interested in his services. There have also been talks that he is close to signing for the north-east club, upon having a medical.
The likes of Alfie Whiteman, Alfie Devine, and Dane Scarlett all made their professional debuts last season. However, Cirkin was not among those to follow suit and there is no sign that he is part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans as of yet.
With Ryan Sessegnon returning to the club, Ben Davies and Sergio Reguilon tussling for the left-back position, the fullback position could prove to be a tough frame to fit into for Cirkin.
Cirkin has been a name left out of the conversation when it comes to bright prospects for Spurs. Therefore it appears as if the player wants to depart the club, to aid his development with some first-team experience.
Sunderland could be the move his career requires, as they look to finally move up and out of League One. There is also no doubt that his chances of first-team football would be far greater at the Stadium of Light. It will be interesting to see what developments take place in this saga.
