Sterling Aiming to Break into Tuchel’s Plans

Sterling’s ultimate goal for this new contract is to break into Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the Blues’ first team.

There is an acceptance that a loan spell away from the club may need to come first, but the youngster has impressed in pre-season so far.

He spent the end of last season injured but has had two spells away from Chelsea earlier in his career.

Sterling spent the 2018/19 season with Coventry City, making 38 appearances as the Sky Blues finished eighth in League One.

He was then at Wigan Athletic the season after, making eight appearances as the Latics suffered relegation from the Championship due to a points deduction.

Sky report that both the player and the club are confident that a new deal can be agreed and that Chelsea do see a future for Sterling at the club.

The Blues have shifted a few young players in this transfer window, the most recent being Tino Livramento’s move to Southampton.

Dynel Simeu, Myles Peart-Harris and Pierre Ekwah Elimby have also left the club, for Southampton, Brentford and West Ham United respectively, but Sterling is not among the group of players the Blues are looking to move on.
