Important Figure in the Dressing Room

Hanley has become an important figure both on and the pitch, and keeping him until 2025 highlights his importance in the dressing room.

The 29-year-old joined Norwich in 2017 from Newcastle United, making 34 appearances during his first season with the club.

He endured a much tougher second season, despite being appointed the club captain. Hanley made just the 10 appearances after picking up an injury at the start of the campaign. Upon his return, he struggled to displace Timm Klose and Christopher Zimmerman.

Injury hampered him again the following season, but last season he finally recovered fully, making 42 appearances in total.

Hanley will hoping that he can stay injury-free this season following the Canaries’ return to the Premier League. Norwich are in need of a centre-back, but Hanley’s seniority and leadership will see him be one of the first names on the team-sheet.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the Norwich City website, the Scotsman highlighted how welcoming the club have been since the moment he arrived.

“I’m over the moon,” he said. “For me, I’m very grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given.

“Since the moment I walked through the door, It’s been so welcoming and and they’ve made me feel part of something.

“To commit my future here means a lot to me and my family as well. My partner loves it here and it’s such a nice play to live.

“I have a little girl now who’s nearly a year old. Everything about the place is great and I’m really pleased.”

Norwich boss, Daniel Farke, said: “It is great news for us. We’re absolutely delighted to have Grant with us for the coming years.

“I have been working with him for many years now and it has been a joy and a pleasure. He’s a great character and also our club captain. He is a great footballer and a great personality in the dressing room.

“We need his quality and also his personality to be successful. It is great that he has committed his future to the football club.”
