Andros Townsend to Search for New Club After Crystal Palace Contract Expires
No New Deal at Selhurst Park for Former England Winger
Having joined Crystal Palace in 2016, Andros Townsend has gone on to become one of Roy Hodgson’s most valuable players. From 185 outings for the club, the 29-year-old has scored 16 and added a further 28 assists.
But with Hodgson gone, many of the club’s more senior players are now out of contract, with Townsend being one of them.
Having worked alongside new Palace boss Patrick Vieira as part of ITV’s coverage of Euro 2020, the winger was hopeful that he could stay at the club. However, after giving a Q&A on ITV Sport’s Twitter account, Townsend gave his reasons as to why he will be now be looking to move on.
He said: “A lot of things really. At this stage of my career, it has to be the right move.
“There has to be a clear path to game time, I have to suit the style of play and the manager has to want me.
“My family have to be happy in their new surroundings so yeah a lot of thinking goes into this move which is why I am still without a club at the beginning of July.
“Hopefully I can sort it out soon.”
Palace Contract Extensions and Potential Departures
While Andros Townsend looks set to depart, one player that will be staying at Crystal Palace is defender, Joel Ward.
According to the Evening Standard, the 31-year-old is set to sign a new deal after also seeing his contract expire in June.
He will join Christian Benteke in extending their stay at the club, while Gary Cahill has also been offered fresh terms but yet to commit his future.
Meanwhile, Vieira is on a pre-season training camp with his new squad at England’s base, St. George’s Park. Defender Nathaniel Clyne is among the players there, but he is also out of contract.
Scott Dann looks set to depart, with new Bournemouth boss Scott Parker eager to bring the experienced defender to the Vitality Stadium.
