Manchester United to Prioritise Bruno Fernandes Contract Extension

Bruno Fernandes Contract

After agreeing a deal to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United will prioritise a Bruno Fernandes contract extension.

The midfielder, 26, joined Manchester United 18 months ago but has seen his role at the club become everything they desired and more.

As a result, fresh terms will be discussed over the next month, as Fabrizio Romano reports.

Why Manchester United Are Keen to Give Bruno Fernandes Fresh Terms Already

Bruno Fernandes’ impact at Old Trafford since his arrival in January 2020 has received comparisons to the like of Eric Cantona, who played a key role during Sir Alex Ferguson’s glorious reign as manager.

Fernandes’ output in Portugal replicated that of incredible numbers for a midfielder and he has only continued to deliver to that high standard.

The Portuguese midfielder can expect to be offered huge terms by Manchester United, who no doubt have just agreed to fork out more hundreds of thousands, weekly, to Jadon Sancho.

With his role in the team as big as anyone, Fernandes warrants earnings as high as many of his colleagues – if not all.

Fernandes has scored 40 goals in 80 appearances for the Red Devils so far, already earning him two Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year awards.

Tough Euro 2020 No Reflection on Bruno Fernandes’ Talents

Bruno Fernandes has had a difficult few weeks at the European Championship. The midfielder prepared for Euro 2020 with two goals and an assist in a friendly v Israel on June 9, 2020. However, after playing in Portugal’s first two group stage games, Fernandes has dropped by coach Fernando Santos against France and remained out of the starting eleven for the Belgium game, which would be Portugal’s last in the competition.

Fernandes was tiring toward the end of the 2020/21 campaign having featured in a lot of games during his 18 months at United. Though that’s a possible excuse, he has failed to replicate the form he possesses at club level when representing his country, scoring just four goals in 33 appearances.

Jadon Sancho Signing Requires Manchester United to Show They Mean Business in 2021/22

After finally adding Jadon Sancho to the club’s ranks, Manchester United must finally show they mean business on the football field. A distant second-place finish and a runners-up medal just doesn’t cut it for the success machine that should be at the Theatre of Dreams.

The talent on the books is getting stronger and stronger and with one or two more signings, the pressure will be on them to deliver some silverware.
