It has been a relatively quiet week for Oxford United, with all of the news coming on Sunday. Reports suggested that Bristol City are prepared to meet the club’s valuation of defender Rob Atkinson while the U’s are lining up a Dundee United defender as a replacement for Josh Ruffels.
Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: Rob Atkinson Valuation to be Met and Dundee United Defender Jamie Robson on U’s Radar
Bristol City to Meet Oxford United’s Valuation for Rob Atkinson
Oxford United defender Rob Atkinson has attracted yet more transfer interest with Bristol City now prepared to meet the club’s asking price.
The news comes after The Sun on Sunday reported that Scottish Premiership giants Celtic have also shown interest in the 22-year-old.
Now, the Robins, who were linked with the former Eastleigh man last month, are prepared to table a bid of the £1.6 million asking price set by the U’s.
Despite only making his Football League debut at the start of the season, Atkinson has had an impressive campaign, scoring twice from 44 appearances along with being named in the League One Team of the Season.
Atkinson has two years remaining on his Oxford contract and are under no pressure to sell, but if the Robins meet their valuation of the defender then it could be the second departure of the summer after Josh Ruffels joined Huddersfield Town.
Jamie Robson Targeted as Josh Ruffels Replacement
Oxford United have identified Dundee United defender Jamie Robson as a potential transfer target, according to Alan Nixon.
The 23-year-old would be a welcome replacement for Josh Ruffels on the left-hand side of defence after he left to join Huddersfield Town last month.
Robson came through the youth academy at Tannadice and signed a professional contract in 2014.
Now, the 23-year-old has surpassed 160 appearances for the Terrors, where he has scored twice. He also played a key role in their promotion from the Scottish Championship last year and adapted well in the top flight.
Robson has one year remaining on his current deal, meaning the U’s would need to pay a transfer fee for the defender’s services. However, with reports suggesting that Bristol City are prepared to meet the club’s £1.6 million valuation of defender Rob Atkinson, this may not be a problem.
